Essential CALM Community Massage Project provides accessible and affordable therapeutic massage treatments from our Charles Street Community and Wellness Centre in Heaton and our beautiful yurt in the heart of the Gibside National Trust Estate.
We work alongside a number of community organisations in order to improve the quality of life of the individuals we work with and the community we work within, whilst improving our interactions with, and understanding of, our natural world.
Charles Street Community Association is a registered Charity (reg.. no.1010376).
You can find our low cost therapies at the Charles Street Community Centre (Heaton) every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 10AM - 5PM
We are also available at our Gibside location throughout the year, just contact us here to find out more.
Why not pop in, and enjoy a therapeutic treatment!
Our sliding scale of cost allows people who may not normally be able to access these therapies to enjoy them on a regular basis, helping them to build strong foundations for achieving sustainable levels of good health and wellbeing.
The health benefits of massage
Massage has been shown to not only improve the general health of those with good health, it has been proven to be beneficial in pain management and in reducing the symptoms of dis-ease whilst boosting immunity. Massage can increase energy levels, promote relaxation, improve mobility and increase a persons sense of well being.
Our therapies help rebalance your energies and create a deep level of relaxation and calm within, allowing you to build strong foundations for achieving sustainable levels of good health.
Now for something different...
Experience our therapeutic range of holistic massage treatments in naturally luxurious surrounds. In the heart of Gibside's forests you can find a beautiful yurt and experience deep and profound levels of relaxation with our therapies. During your treatment; being this close to nature; with only the sounds of the forest to distract you, can help you deeply re-connect with your natural self and your natural surrounds. And once your treatment is finished, your relaxation can continue with a sauntering-float around Gibside's beautiful, closely conserved lands or partake in some creative workshops with the artists that work within the Stables at Gibside, you could also grab a tasty treat at Gibside's cafe... or then again you could simply just Be!
We opened for a trial period at Easter 2012 to raise awareness of the project and what an enjoyable time it has been, providing taster sessions and full luxurious treatments to the kind folk of Gibside.
The launch was even featured on the ITV news, if you missed it you can watch the reports here.
Finally, after a long long break and reparations to our yurt and the acquisition of a beautiful Glastonbury burner we relaunched last weekend and what an amazing weekend was had! We were fullly booked both days...with massages and hennas galore.
